Timeline & Format

The 2025/26 Hungarian football season kicks off on the weekend of 2–3 August 2025 and wraps up on 17 May 2026.

Each of the 12 teams will play 33 matches over the course of the season. The league follows a triple round-robin format, meaning every team faces each other three times - ensuring plenty of chances for revenge and redemption. The top teams in the league qualify for European competitions, including the Champions League, either through direct entry or qualification rounds. The league winner enters the Champions League qualification, while other high-placed teams earn Conference League qualification spots, all under UEFA's competition structure.

Here’s how the season is structured:

  • Matchdays 1–19: From early August through mid-December

  • Winter break: Begins after the final December matchday

  • Season resumes: Mid-February 2026

  • Final Matchday (33): 17 May 2026

At the end of the season, the lowest-ranked teams face relegation to NB II, while top teams from NB II earn promotion to the Fizz Liga.

And don’t forget the international breaks. These weekends are reserved for national team duty - meaning no NB I games during:

  • 1–9 September 2025

  • 6–14 October 2025

  • 10–18 November 2025

  • 23–31 March 2026

Want to catch a game before the winter chill hits? Or looking to kick off your spring with some football heat? Plan around these dates for the best matchday experiences.
